Add Years To Your Life...
And Life To Your Years

The human body has the potential to live for 110 or even 120 years, barring major accidents. What gets in the way of achieving such a milestone? The way we live our lives. Scientists at UCLA recently published a report listing several ways to help you live longer and stay well while you age.

1. Diet—of course. But here’s what’s interesting. The researchers found that those who lived longer didn’t really avoid certain types of food, but instead controlled the overall amount of calories they ate. As we get older, we need less food, so the people who lived longer ate in moderation.
2. Exercise. Falls are a major health hazard for older people. The researchers concluded that those who lived longer did exercises that improved their balance and coordination.
3. Mental exercise. Learn new tasks and do puzzles to keep your brain strong.
4. Socialization. The latest research shows that supportive friend may be even more important than family relationships when it comes to helping you stay well.
5. Medical sensibility. That means when something hurts, seek medical attention. And be sure to have regular health screenings as you get older; that helps prevent health issues before they become major problems.
