| Want
to get all the benefits of red wine or beer but don't
want to drink alcohol? New research from the nutrition
writers at Cooking Light shows you can get
many of the same nutrients from different kinds of food.
Flavonoids,
an antioxidant in red wine which may be able to help
lower blood pressure, can also be found
in purple grape juice, blueberries, green tea, and dark
chocolate.
Resveratrol,
a phytoestrogen in red wine which may help your heart,
can also be found in peanuts and raspberries.
Saponins,
another antioxidant in red wine which could help lower
cholesterol, can also be found in olive oil and soybeans.
Silicon,
a mineral in beer that's good for bones, can be found
in whole grains and green beans.
Nobody
is quite sure yet how much of these foods you have to
eat to get these benefits, but, as always, it's recommended
you include them with a wide variety of foods in moderation. |
