Researchers
have discovered coffee has a natural compound in it
which may help prevent colon cancer.
In
laboratory studies, the compound, called methylpyridinium,
appears to boost the activity of phase II enzymes, which
seem to protect against colon cancer.
The
compound is present in regular, decaf, and instant coffee,
but it is not found in coffee beans.
It's
also been discovered that espresso-type coffee has two
to three times the amount of methylpyridinium than is
found in medium-roast coffee, so you can enjoy your
lattes, too!
