Eat
To Beat Fatigue
Fitness, October 2001
What
should you eat to boost your energy? It's not caffeine
and sugar. Here are the five best foods to eat for a
pick-me-up.
|
| 1.
Yogurt:
You get essential B vitamins, which your body uses
to convert other nutrients into energy. Buy plain
low-fat yogurt and add fresh or dried fruit for
less sugar and even more energy. |
| |
| 2.
Bran Muffin:
A bran muffin the size of a large plum fuels your
body with complex carbohydrates, which give you
longer-lasting energy than simple carbs (sugar).
Avoid jumbo muffins, however--they contain as much
as 600 calories and 24 grams of fat. |
| |
| 3.
Hard-Boiled Egg:
Egg whites are protein; yolks give you B vitamins. |
| |
|
4. Peanut Butter:
Be sure to get the all-natural, low-sugar kind,
for a healthy dose of magnesium and protein. |
| |
| 5.
Trail Mix: The
kind with dried fruit, seeds, and nuts gives you
a dose of iron that will prevent fatigue, weakness,
and headaches, as well as complex carbs, protein,
and natural sugar. Top your yogurt with it! |
