Heart Of The Matter
Circulation, February 2004
The
American Heart Association recently came out with some
new guidelines to help women prevent heart disease.
Here’s what’s suggested: |
| |
| |
Don’t
smoke, or, if you do, quit. |
| |
Maintain
or achieve a normal body weight. |
| |
Exercise
for at least 30 minutes most days of the week. |
| |
Eat
a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains,
low fat dairy products, fish, and legumes, and avoid
saturated fat (found in butter, fried foods, higher-fat
meats, etc.) |
|
Don’t
take hormone therapy or antioxidants to prevent
cardiovascular disease, because recent trials have
not shown benefits from these. |
