Looking for a few supplements for your guy--or as a guy? Here are the latest recommendations from Elizabeth M. Ward, M.S., R.D.

Multivitamin without iron: Too much iron can raise your risk of heart problems, so choose the multi without it. Two brands without iron are Centrum Silver and One A Day Men's Health Formula.

Calcium: This may play a role in bone health and weight management. It's recommended men get three glasses of milk a day. If you don't drink milk, you may need a calcium supplement, but for best absorption, don't take more than 500mg at a time.

Selenium, Boron: These may play a role in prostate health. If possible, get these from foods including brazil nuts, almonds, and raisins.

Omega-3 fatty acids: Eat fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, or tuna a couple of days a week, or try a supplement of 500mg of fish oil daily The oil appears to play a role in brain and heart health.

Folic acid: This B vitamin may play a role in heart health and could reduce your odds of developing Alzheimer's disease. While some will probably be included in your multivitamin, it's recommended you get 500mcg per day, so get the rest from dark green leafy vegetables, beans, citrus fruits, and fortified breads and cereals.
