'Nuts' To Cancer
Source: Men's Health

A recent study on fighting cancer has some surprising results for men: Researchers found that eating brazil nuts could provide enough nutrients to help men fight off two kinds of cancer.

It appears that the amount of selenium in brazil nuts is a powerful weapon in the fight against cancer: Previous studies have shown that selenium helps fight off prostate cancer; now the researchers at the University of Arizona confirm that selenium fights both prostate cancer and colon cancer.

The scientists analyzed men's blood levels and found that those with the highest level of selenium were six times less likely to develop colon cancer than men with lower levels of the mineral.

The lead researcher of the study stated that if a cell senses damage to itself, it can begin a process that will result in the cell's death. It appears that the presence of selenium damages cancer cells, causing them, in essence, to self destruct.

All you have to eat is one or two a day to reap the benefits of these nuts. A serving of brazil nuts (one-quarter of a cup) has 180 calories and 18g of fat, but note that most of the fat is the "good" kind of fat, not the saturated fat that raises the risk of heart attack.

So eat up, and kill off those cancer cells!
