If you've given up eating fresh fruit because you're on a diet, perhaps a low-carb diet, you might want to rethink that decision.

Researchers recently found that fruit plays a significant role in protecting your eyes from age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), a disease that causes blindness.

Results of the study showed that people who ate three or more servings of fruit each day had one-third less risk of developing severe ARMD compared to those who only ate one and a half servings of fruit each day.

Along with fruit, the researchers studied vegetables, antioxidants (vitamins A, C, and E), and carotenoids, but found that only the fruit helped protect against the disease.
