ACCORDING TO A RECENT STUDY FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA -- DAILY BRUSHING IS ASSOCIATED WITH A LOWER RISK OF DEVELOPING DEMENTIA LATER IN LIFE. THE STUDY WAS PUBLISHED IN THE "JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN GERIATRICS SOCIETY". IT INCLUDED MORE THAN FIVE- THOUSAND PEOPLE WITH AN AVERAGE AGE OF 81.
THEY WERE STUDIED FOR 18- YEARS. DURING THAT PERIOD, MORE THAN 11- HUNDRED OF THEM DEVELOPED DEMENTIA. RESEARCHERS FOUND WOMEN WHO DID NOT BRUSH THEIR TEETH EVERY DAY HAD A 65- PERCENT GREATER CHANCE OF DEVELOPING DEMENTIA THAN THOSE WHO DID. MEN WHO DID NOT BRUSH EVERY DAY HAD A 22- PERCENT GREATER CHANCE OF DEVELOPING DEMENTIA.BUT RESEARCHERS SAY IT REMAINS UNCLEAR EXACTLY HOW BRUSHING YOUR TEETH PREVENTS DEMENTIA.

IT ALSO FOUND MORE VIGOROUS EXERCISE WAS LINKED TO A LOWER RISK FOR BREAST CANCER BEFORE AND DURING MENOPAUSE. AND THE STUDY FOUND GREATER SEDENTARY TIME WAS ASSOCIATED WITH A HIGHER RISK FOR TRIPLE- NEGATIVE BREAST CANCER.

Cincinnati (WKRC) – If you’re making a list and checking it twice. You may want to check who is spending a lot of time in virtual meetings these days.
The hottest holiday gift this year may be a better-looking zoom experience.
That means with more of us seeing ourselves on screen, gift certificates or gifts to ourselves involving smoother skin and fuller lips, seem to be the top requests.
“We are using Restylane Kysse on Amber,” said Karen Lynch, a Physician’s assistant at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center. “It’s a new hyaluronic acid filler, with expression technology meaning that it’s a soft moveable filler, it’s FDA approved for lips.”
There’s also something else new for lips and eyes. It’s pretty popular on holiday wish lists.
“There’s another class of hyaluronic acids fillers by Revance,” said Dr. Jon Mendelsohn, the owner of Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center. “They call them RH2, RH3 and RH4. One of the problems with HA’s is that they’re water-loving, which can draw fluid into the eyes. One of the problems is that you can inject, and you can get a watery edema. It looks a little swollen. It doesn’t look right. Revance has long chains that are maintained, so there’s less hydrophilic tendencies. It’s a wonderful soft product for around the eyes, the lips and similar areas.”
Costs for these products is similar to most fillers. Those start at about $400 to $600 and go up, depending on how much you need.
In most cases, they’re not covered by medical insurance plans.
A change in your diet be the newest prescription for beating pain.
A study just released from the British Medical Journal says a few foods might make a big difference in easing what hurts, especially if you experience knee pain.
It turns out that the latest pain-fighting foods in the study were found to be fruits and vegetables, as well as beans, nuts and whole grains.
Researchers found that those who ate more of those foods reported less joint pain in the knees.
These foods are known to fight inflammation, which may be part of why they work to ease aches and pains, but this study says what really makes them effective is that they are high in fiber.
As part of this trial researchers looked at 5,000 adults. Those who were the top fiber eaters, about 22-27 grams a day, reported 30 to 60 percent less knee pain compared to those who ate a lot less, about only 9 to 14 grams. It's suggested you get 21 to 38 grams a day.
The average person eats less than 8 grams a day.
A good bowl of cereal in the morning might give you five grams of fiber in a cup. So maybe have a couple of good bowls of cereal or adjust your diet accordingly.
It’s great if you exercise, but you don’t want what you eat and drink to negate even part of the gains you make. In a recent study published in The Journal of Physiology, researchers at the University of Copenhagen took a look at the effect of resveratrol—the compound found in red wine—on the body.
Twenty-seven sedentary but healthy men between the ages of 60 and 72 took either resveratrol or a placebo every day and participated in interval training twice a week for eight weeks. By the end of the study, men who took the placebo had better oxygen capacity than those who took resveratrol.
Researchers concluded that exercise is better than a pill for your health, and too high a level of antioxidants in the blood might even block the effect of cardiovascular exercise in some people such as older men, making it harder to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels. (However, the amount of antioxidants administered in the study was much higher than what you can get in a regular diet.)
